Picnic, September 30, SUNDAY
It’s going to be good.  It’s going to be fun.  It’s going to be soon.  It’s going to be unforgettable!  Picnic is for ALL Orange County Licensed Foster Families and for other foster families who are members of the Foster Care Auxiliary.
New this year…a talent show during the last hour of the picnic.  Do you have a talent you’d like to share?  Does your child like being on stage and have a talent to share?  If you would like to participate, contact Kathy at FosterCareAux@yahoo.com or 714 778-3383 to reserve a spot.  You will be given a performance time when you check in for the picnic.  Everyone will get a participation ribbon and plenty of applause!
Non Foster Families CAN Enjoy the Picnic
If you have a group of 5 or more that would like to run one of our game booths at the picnic, contact FosterCareAux@yahoo.com .  This is one way that non foster families can enjoy the picnic…it is a great opportunity to help the foster families in Orange County have a great day.  The smiles and laughter of the day last a long while.

Foster Care Closet for New Placements

I had the pleasure of meeting a very special Foster/Adoptive mom named Robbin Hatten in August.  Robbin has started a Foster Care Closet with Bethany Church in Long Beach for ALL new foster placements.  If you have gotten a new placement of any age within the past 2 weeks, contact Bethany Church at 562 597-2411 and make an appointment to visit the closet where items available include clothing, shoes, diapers, toiletries, car seats, strollers, etc.  Robbin is also the co-author of ‘My Life Book’, which I hope to give out at our November Quarterly meeting, but more on that later.

Our Sponsors

Brenda Stockwell, fellow Auxiliary Member and foster parent is our newsletter sponsor this month.  I have personally seen the Heritage Makers Books she has created with this system of making a life book, story book, photo journal, photo card, etc.  Her business is an online publishing system that is simple to use…no paper or glue or stickers or tape to store, and no cabinets or closets to fill with endless supplies.  So give Brenda a call and do something special with all those digital photos you have.

Heritage Makers

August 17th we were fortunate to have Saddleback College Foster and Kinship Care Education Program sponsor Mack Dryden as our speaker and trainer for our Quarterly Meeting.  I can’t remember the last time I laughed so much or so hard at a Foster Care Meeting.  The evening was enjoyable, informative, and uplifting.

Many Thanks!!!

I would like to thank the foster parents who sent their teens in during the summer and on Saturdays to help at the store, the foster parents who volunteer at the store, the teens who are earning their community service hours by helping at the store, to Orangewood Foundation’s ILP Helping Hands Teens who swarmed in and did a mountain of work in less than 3 hours, to all of our many members who volunteer regularly and choose to make a difference.  We couldn’t do it without you.  Thank you so much for your support and volunteer hours when you can spare them.  It is amazing what can be accomplished in a few short hours when there is an extra set of hands.

We don't accomplish anything in this world alone ... and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.  Sandra Day O’Connor

IMPORTANT!! TOYS and CAR SEAT RECALLS!!

In addition to the Mattel recall I’m sure you have all heard of, Graco has issued a safety alert regarding the belt on its ComfortSport models when used in the rear-facing position.  visit www.gracobaby.com to see the model numbers affected and learn what to do it you have one that is.

You can easily find out how to see if you have any of the many Mattel/Fisher Price toys that were recently recalled at www.Mattel.com due to the use of lead paint on various Nickelodeon and Sesame Street characters, and due to dangers of the small powerful magnets in Polly Pocket, Batman, Magna, Doggie Daycare, and Shones Jump’s One Piece playsets.  Their web site walks you through what to do if you have any of the recalled items.  Let’s keep our kids safe!
